Our Story

Twin Meadows Animal Rescue Society (TMARS) is a non-profit animal rescue organization located in the East Kootenays, British Columbia, Canada. We rescue and rehome local stray animals, feral cats, owner surrenders, animals from high kill shelters and more.

Our Story

TMARS was created in February 2020 to facilitate the need in the Elk Valley for displaced animals. With the closest animal shelter located a distance away in Cranbrook, BC, for those who found animals, or simply didn't want the responsibility of one, this distance was simply too far.

This contributed to "dumping" issues, especially cats.  As the need grew, local residents often rescued, fostered and vetted animals in the valley out of their own pocket. As people started to catch wind and ask for help, several Elk Valley residents came together and created TMARS out of necessity. Now, a board of 8 is in place to help with decision making towards the very best policy.

Being a kennel-free organization, we rely on foster homes to help rehabilitate and care for our animals. Our foster network is key to Twin Meadows’ success. We believe that animals in care belong in homes to learn how to be the best they can, and not shelters with limited human interaction.
